HISTORY OF WHITE COUNTY
ANTIQUE POWER ASSOCIATION WHITE COUNTY, INDIANA
The White County Antique Power Association (WCAPA) was
officially organized April 2005 at Monticello, Indiana for the
purpose of passing on our rich White County agricultural
heritage to the next generation. For about 25 years, "antique
tractor people" had unofficially gathered at the White County
Fair to show their antique tractors. About 20 to 30 tractors
would be on display each year. Every Fair there would be talk
of getting a group of antique tractor lovers organized, but
nothing happened. With the spark of the White County
Fairgrounds purchasing an adjacent wooded area to the east of
the Fairgrounds in 2004, the idea was born to expand the
antique tractor show. With the pent-up interest to organize a
White County antique tractor club and now a great big place to
show tractors and hold demonstration events, the White County
Antique Power Association was organized. The antique tractors,
machinery show and demonstrations have become a major
attraction at the White County Fair each July. In 2005 there
were 50 tractors on display and expanded machinery
demonstrations. In 2006 and 2007 over 100 tractors were
displayed plus farm implements and gas engines. In 2007 the
Fair antique tractor showgrounds were fenced in and an antique
post office building was moved in by WCAPA members. In 2009
there are over 80 plus WCAPA members that enjoy monthly
meetings on various topics and an annual auction and Christmas
party. Other WCAPA organized events include plow days and
tractor drives. The WCAPA monthly newsletter, "Remaking
History" and the WCAPA web site, "wcantiquepower.com" keeps
members informed of activities. Membership in WCAPA is open to
anyone with an antique tractor interest in the White County,
Indiana and surrounding area by paying annual dues. The
original founding directors and officers in 2005 include:
Claude Butt, President; Tim Hall, Vice-President; Marc King,
Secretary: Dan Hunt, Treasurer; and Dick Westerhouse, Board
Member. Later in 2005 Jerry Alma was added as a Board Member.
In 2006, Bill Dahlenburg, Justin Crichfield, and Wayne Potts
were added as Board Members.
